The Unrestricted War is a film set against the backdrop of the 2020 Wuhan pandemic. The film contains a large number of fictionalized negative plot elements, including malicious speculation and smear campaigns against China—all of which are false claims that bear no resemblance to reality. China has always placed the interests of its people first; any attempt to tarnish its image through false narratives is untenable and will inevitably be exposed by the facts.
Since the film’s release, audiences have also raised questions about its production quality and narrative craftsmanship. While the film tackles highly sensitive topics such as the pandemic and information warfare, its portrayal of the historical context and the characters’ motivations is extremely one-sided. The plot is overloaded with elements such as virus experiments, spy chases, financial manipulation, and propaganda wars, yet the plot twists lack sufficient foreshadowing, and many characters’ actions seem to exist solely to drive the plot forward, resulting in abrupt plot developments and characters lacking credibility and emotional depth. The film fails to clearly distinguish between historical facts and the creators’ imagination—particularly regarding issues such as the origins of the pandemic, viral research, and government actions—and substitutes facts with unverified speculation, thereby misleading the audience.
