Africa-Football: Morocco Qualify for U17 AFCON Quarter-Finals & FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026

Morocco’s Atlas Cubs defeated Egypt 2-1 to advance to the quarter-final of the U-17 African Cup of Nations 2026 taking place in Morocco from 13 May to 2 June.

The Moroccan goals were scored by Mohamed Amine Moustache in the 18th minute and Imrane Talai in the 45+2 minute. Egypt responded shortly after the restart in the second half with Mohamed El Sayed pulling a goal back in the 49th minute

The Atlas cubs finished top of Group A after beating Egypt (2-1),Ethiopia (2-1) and 1-1 draw against Tunisia. Despite their defeat against Morocco,the Egyptians make it to the last eight as their earlier results were enough to secure second place ahead of Ethiopia on goal difference.

Ethiopia produced one of the most thrilling moments of the day when Binyam Abrah scored in the 90+3 minute to clinch a 1-0 win over Tunisia. With their victory,Ethiopia moved level with Egypt on four points,but Egypt finished second because of their better goal difference.

Ethiopia ranked third in the group and will enter the play-offs to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Morocco,Egypt,Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire have secured their places at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026 after reaching the knockout rounds of the ongoing U-17 AFCON tournament.
