ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has called a special meeting of the national executive committee (NEC) to dissect the Constitutional Court’s verdict in the Phala Phala saga.
News24 has seen the note to NEC members,which was sent to them on Monday.
In the note,Mbalula invited them to the meeting in Cape Town on Tuesday.
It read: “This serves to invite you to a special NEC meeting to be held on Tuesday,12 May 2026,for a briefing by the national officials,following the ConCourt verdict on the Phala Phala matter.”

The venue has yet to be confirmed,and the agenda will be circulated at a later stage.

On Friday,the Constitutional Court ruled that Parliament’s decision to reject the Section 89 independent panel report into the Phala Phala farm scandal was unconstitutional,unlawful,and invalid.
Chief Justice Mandisa Maya delivered the landmark judgment,ordering that the case be referred to an impeachment committee.

Meanwhile,on Monday,National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza said Parliament would institute an impeachment committee as directed by the Constitutional Court on Friday.
In a statement,Didiza outlined six steps that she said Parliament would follow regarding the Phala Phala matter.
“The Speaker will formally refer the independent panel report to the impeachment committee as directed by the Constitutional Court,” she said in the statement.
