U.S. Mission to the United Nations has condemned the recent rocket attacks launched by the Algeria-backed Polisario militias against the Moroccan Sahara city of Smara, saying “such violence threatens regional stability and the progress made towards peace”.
“These actions are inconsistent with the spirit of the recent talks,” said the U.S. diplomatic mission in a comment posted on its X account.
“The time to end this 50-year-old dispute is now. As affirmed in UNSCR 2797,the Moroccan Autonomy Proposal lays out the path to peace in Western Sahara,” underlined the American delegation to the UN.
“We call on all those resisting peace to genuinely commit to a brighter future. The status quo cannot continue”,affirmed the U.S. mission.
MINURSO visited the three sites hit by the Iranian-made projectiles fired by Polisario thugs from the security berm. They collected forensic data on these attacks that injured one woman. No casualties or damage have been reported.
