Libya’s National Institution for Human Rights has called on Acting Interior Minister Emad Al-Trabelsi,on March 9,to enforce an order by the Attorney General (AG) to arrest suspects linked to the killing of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi.

The organization stressed that judicial decisions must be implemented without regard to social or regional considerations, insisting that no individual should be exempt from the enforcement of the law.

It warned that Al-Trabelsi could bear legal responsibility if the suspects manage to flee Libyan territory or if their lives are endangered in ways that could compromise or obscure the investigation. The rights body also criticised what it described as selective enforcement of judicial orders, saying this has allowed the suspects to remain at large and perpetuated impunity.

The Attorney General’s Office announced on Thursday,March 5,2026,that the victim was ambushed near his residence by assailants who climbed the wall of the house, surrounded him in the courtyard and opened fire with automatic weapons. Three suspects have been identified and arrest warrants issued as investigations continue.
