Moroccan telecom operator INWI said on Dec 16 it has landed the MEDUSA submarine cable in Nador,a move aimed at strengthening the country’s international connectivity and its position as a regional digital hub.
The cable,developed by AFR-IX telecom,spans more than 8,700 km and is set to become the Mediterranean’s largest connectivity system,linking 19 landing points across North Africa,Europe,the Middle East and Egypt by 2027,the company said in a statement.
INWI said it has secured a high-capacity link of 1,416 km between Nador and Marseille,offering speeds of up to 24 terabits per second on an open-access model.
The route adds redundancy to Morocco’s network,improves reliability of international communications and enhances resilience as data traffic surges.
The investment aligns with Morocco’s Digital 2030 strategy,which seeks to build a sovereign and inclusive digital ecosystem to support cloud services,artificial intelligence and business transformation.
“This landing consolidates Morocco’s ambition to become a major regional digital hub,” INWI said in a statement.
By expanding ultra-high-speed connectivity and opening new routes to global hubs,the operator aims to reduce the digital divide and attract international investors to Morocco’s technology sector.
