UNESCO and La Fondation Maroc 2030 have signed a landmark partnership agreement in Rabat aimed at promoting education, inclusion, and social cohesion through sport.
The cooperation framework, which will run from 2025 to 2030,aligns with Morocco’s hosting of major international sporting events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the U-17 Women’s World Cup (2025–2029),and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The agreement was signed by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and Fouzi Lekjaa,President of La Fondation Maroc 2030.
It marks the Foundation’s first formal commitment to the social and educational dimensions of sport.
Azoulay highlighted the transformative potential of sport, stating that with Fondation Maroc 2030,sport is being positioned as a driver of education and inclusion.
The momentum of major events can be turned into lasting impact for youth and local communities, she said.
Lekjaa said the partnership will reinforce the role of sport, particularly football,as a tool for sustainable development and social inclusion.
The first initiative under the agreement, titled “From Stadiums to Communities: Sport as a Driver of Change,” will be funded by UNESCO and implemented with the Foundation.
It will include community tournaments under the banner “CAN of Citizenship,” a national campaign promoting the values of sport, and a festival focused on equality and development through sport, with dedicated programming for girls and women.
