m25 tunnel closed and air ambulance lands after serious crash

Part of the M25 is shut after a serious crash in the Holmesdale Tunnel,with drivers trapped in the road closure.

Traffic has ground to a halt on the M25 at the Essex,Hertfordshire and Enfield border following a serious collision involving two lorries.

The crash happened clockwise between junctions J25 Waltham Cross and J26 Waltham Abbey shortly after 8am near the tunnel exit.

The motorway was blocked in both directions for hours while the air ambulance landed,and for the crash investigation.

Inrix,which analyses traffic data,said in an alert that two lorries were involved.

Drivers have been warned of two-hour delays clockwise on the approach to the scene.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told Metro: ‘We were called at 8.33am today (29 October) to reports of a road traffic collision on the M25,Waltham Cross.

‘We sent an ambulance crew and an incident response officer to the scene.

‘We treated two people and took one patient to hospital as a priority. The other patient was taken to hospital by East Anglian Air Ambulance.’

Queues are stretching back to J27 for M11,and diverted traffic is clogging up parts of Waltham Cross and Waltham Abbey.

Traffic on the anticlockwise lanes was released at around 10am,while most of the clockwise lanes remain closed.

One lane reopened past the scene at about 1pm,while lanes 1,2,and 3 and the entry slip road at J25 remain closed for recovery,National Highways said.

Traffic was also held in the Holmesdale Tunnel previously.

Footage shows an air ambulance landed in the middle of the anticlockwise carriageway.

The crash comes shortly after a collision and fire further east on the M25 between Romford and Brentwood this morning,which caused long delays.
