The Moroccan Government Council has officially approved three decrees granting licenses for the deployment and operation of fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks to the country’s leading telecom operators.

The decision marks a pivotal step in Morocco’s digital transformation strategy and sets the stage for the commercial launch of 5G services beginning in November 2025.

These licenses follow a competitive bidding process overseen by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT),in accordance with local law governing postal and telecom services.

The initial phase of the 5G rollout will target eight major cities and their airports, including Rabat,Casablanca,Marrakech,Fès,Agadir, and Tangier.

The government aims to reach 25% of the population by the end of 2026,and 70% by 2030,with an estimated 40 billion dirhams in infrastructure investments expected from the operators.

Maroc Telecom and Inwi announced a few months ago they will team up to deploy 5G networks across Morocco.
