The World Bank Group supports Morocco in its vision for a new generation of territorial development programs, launched under the guidance of King Mohammed VI,said the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Regional Director for North Africa,Cheick-Oumar Sylla.

“Morocco’s vision for a new generation of territorial development programs offers a key opportunity to deepen the World Bank Group’s support to the Kingdom for inclusive and balanced regional growth,” Sylla told MAP in an interview on the eve of the 5th edition of the Africa Financial Summit, scheduled to take place in Casablanca November 3-4,under the theme ‘Our Capital,Our Strength: Unleashing Africa’s Financial Sovereignty.’

According to the IFC executive, unlocking the full potential of Morocco’s regions requires a multipolar approach combining strategic financing, institutional strengthening, and targeted promotion of investment.

Sylla highlighted the partnership between Morocco and the IFC in this framework, recalling that the financial institution provided a loan that enabled the extension of the Casablanca tramway, demonstrating how structured financing can unlock essential infrastructure investments.

“In recent years,we have also worked closely with the Regional Investment Centers (CRIs),notably the CRI of Marrakech-Safi and the CRI of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceïma,to improve the regional business climate and attract private investment,” he added.

These partnerships help regional authorities strengthen their capacity to promote investment and support sustainable local development,Sylla noted.

“We are currently exploring opportunities to extend our support to other regions of the Kingdom, starting with the Oriental region, with continued focus on infrastructure financing and municipal capacity building,in order to advance Morocco’s territorial development agenda,” he said.
