
Former captain of Atlas Lions Hakim Ziyech has returned home. He joined Wydad club of Casablanca. The former Chelsea and Galatasaray star has signed with Wydad a deal running until June 2027 with an option for further seasons,according to local press reports.
Ziyech had been a free agent since the end of May 2025 when his contract with Al-Duhail was terminated by mutual consent. The former Chelsea winger had joined the Qatar Stars League club only in late January 2025 immediately after his deal with Galatasaray was mutually terminated.
The Moroccan star will make an impact at Wydad,one of the biggest clubs in Morocco. It has won the Botola Pro 22 times. The club’s first title dates back to 1948,and their most recent championship win was in the 2021-2022 season.
The transfer will enable Ziyech to regain rhythm and fitness and to push his case for a place in the Atlas Lions team preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 32-year-old Morocco international winger made his name at Ajax before earning a € 46 million move to Chelsea in 2020. During his time at Chelsea Ziyech won the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup,scoring 14 goals and giving 13 assists in 107 matches in all competitions for the Blues.
Known as ‘the wizard,Ziyech scored eight goals and gave five assists in 34 appearances for Galatasaray,winning the Turkish Super Lig in 2024 and 2025.
