PayPal users were left struggling to access their accounts after a glitch before service resumed.

Users of the popular online payment service worldwide reported issues this afternoon following an outage.

Problem reports surged on DownDetector, which tracks websites, with most issues relating to log-in. It is thought that the issue has been resolved since.

People were also unable to access the app, which can be used to transfer and receive money and make contactless payments in-store.

Customers are reportedly receiving an error message after entering log-in details, saying ‘We’re having some trouble completing your request right now. Please try again shortly, and if it persists let us know.’
