
Morocco and United Kingdom have just completed in Marrakesh region their annual military exercise “Jebel Sahara”,marking 25 years of cooperation between Morocco’s 2nd Parachute Infantry Brigade (2BIP) and the British Gibraltar Regiment.
The exercise represents a milestone of Moroccan-British cooperation based on mutual trust,enduring friendships and shared geostrategic interests.
Marrakech provides British RG an opportunity to learn from the Moroccan troops’ experience of operating in the hot,dry and demanding conditions of the desert. In return,they share with the Moroccans their military skills and manoeuvre tactics.
To mark the long-standing partnership,General Sir Patrick Sanders visited the exercise in his capacity as the Honorary Colonel of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. He was accompanied by the Commanding Officer of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment,Lt. Colonel John Pitto,Regimental Sergeant Major WO1 Karon Fortunato,and Second-in-Command Major Dayan Pozo.
The “Jebel Sahara” Exercise embodies military professionalism and adaptability making Moroccan-British partnership a success as it fosters defense engagement,delivers operational excellence and strengthens inter-operability.
