Morocco U20 football team defeated Spain 2-0 in their opener at the FIFA World cup taking place in Chile. The Moroccan goals were scored by Yassir Zabiri (54th minute) and Gessime Yassine (in the 58th minute).

Yassir Zabiri missed a chance for Morocco after just six minutes when he blazed wide of the bar from seven yards out. Spain quickly rallied and Fouad Zahouani kept the Young Lions in the game shortly afterwards when he blocked a dangerous bouncing effort from Rayane Belaid off the line.

Zabiri found the target in the 54th minute when he broke clear of the Spain defence and slotted the ball past Fran Gonzalez. Gessime Yassine then doubled Morocco’s lead four minutes later when he converted a cross from Othmane Maamma from close range.

Morocco’s coach Mohamed Ouahbi said he is happy for winning 2-0 against Spain, not conceding any goals, creating chances, showing quality, and demonstrating ability to keep possession with good defense game.

“But it’s only three points,we haven’t achieved anything yet. We didn’t just come here to beat Spain. We want more. Confidence is growing, but we’re going to stay humble, believe in ourselves and chances”,he added.

This victory boosts the confidence of the young Atlas Lions but they should remain focused on their upcoming matches against Brazil and Mexico. These two champion teams ended their first match with a 2-2 draw.
