King Mohammed VI has extended his congratulations and best wishes to Mali’s Transitional President Gen. Assimi Goita and Malian people on the occasion on the Independence Day celebrated on September 22.
The King has also reaffirmed Morocco’s constant readiness to work with Mali to strengthen further cooperation ties for a stable, united, and prosperous Africa.
In his message, the Sovereign assured Goïta of the importance he attaches to strengthening the historic bonds of fraternity and solidarity uniting the Moroccan and Malian peoples.
The two countries share deep historical, cultural, and fraternal ties, rooted in shared Islamic heritage. Under King Mohammed VI’s South-South cooperation strategy, relations gained momentum, focusing on economic development, security in the Sahel region, and mutual support amid regional instability.
This partnership has intensified following Mali’s 2020-2021 military transition and its withdrawal from ECOWAS alongside Burkina Faso and Niger, positioning Morocco as a key alternative partner for trade, security, and infrastructure access.
Mali is among Sahel countries (Niger,Chad, and Burkina Faso) that have all adhered to the Royal initiative offering Atlantic access to these landlocked African countries. The royal initiative seeks to transform the economies of the Sahel region and unlock its untapped potentials, bringing in development, peace, stability and shared prosperity.
