‘It means people can get about quickly and in an environmentally-friendly way. It benefits businesses and it benefits jobs.’

He added that it was vital for London’s transport to be considered by the Chancellor when she unveils her second Autumn Budget on November 26.

‘It is really important that the Chancellor understands the importance of London with the rest of the country. It shouldn’t be London versus the rest of the country,it should be London supporting the rest of the country,’ he said.

‘It is very difficult to get national growth without growth in London. It is very difficult to have the economy nationally benefitting if there is an another anti-London budget. I’m hoping that we have an end to year after year budgets that are anti-London.’
