U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson has denounced again the Algeria-backed Polisario armed militia as a “terrorist organization” posing serious threats to regional peace and stability.

The influential republican politician made the remarks Tuesday in New York following his talks with Moroccan Foreign minister Nasser Bourita on the sidelines of the ongoing 80th UN General Assembly.

In a press statement,Joe Wilson,a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, cited the bipartisan legislation introduced in June in the U.S. Congress to designate Polisario a foreign terrorist organization (FTO).

The congressman remarks come ahead of the UN Security Council meeting on the Sahara issue due in October. This meeting is expected to endorse the Autonomy Plan offered by Morocco for the Sahara under its sovereignty as the ONLY feasible solution to this decades-long regional conflict.

Branding the Polisario as FTO will restrict its movements abroad, freeze the funds of separatists in international banks, confiscate their assets, and ban any activities or gatherings related to them. Any entity or country such as Algeria or South Africa associated with funding, supporting,or cooperating with the Polisario will face criminal charges and economic sanctions.
