Thousands gathered in central London to pay tribute to ‘modern day martyr’ Charlie Kirk after he was shot dead.

Crowds waved Union flags, starred and striped banners and held wooden crucifixes aloft as they sang a rendition of Amazing Grace.

Others marched to Speakers’ Corner the ‘home of free speech and debate’ in Britain to honour Kirk’s legacy, chanting Christian slogans like ‘Christ is King’.

The event, organised by the UK arm of Mr Kirk’s pressure group Turning Point, gathered by the park’s Reformer’s Tree.

Jack Ross, the CEO of Turning Point UK,told attendees that Mr Kirk was a ‘modern day martyr’ who ‘stood up against censorship and tyranny, and won’.

Mr Kirk was shot while he was addressing a rally at Utah Valley University last week.

The event was not without tension,as police were forced to intervene in a row after UKIP leader Nick Tenconi was labelled a ‘fascist’ towards the end of the sombre rally.

A clip showed officers breaking up a fight as a man shouted ‘f***ing traitor’.

Police were then shown leading the man,who was holding a camera, away from the event and out of the park.

Others wore red Trump-style MAGA caps as they congregated near Speaker’s Corner, the traditional home of free speech in the capital.

It comes as a London pub dedicated a room to Mr Kirk alongside Trump-themed decorations erected for the president’s state visit last week.
