Moroccan OCP Group, the world’s largest producer of phosphate-based fertilizers, has partnered with U.S. Peregrine Hydrogen Inc,a climate technology company,to co-produce clean hydrogen with sulfuric acid with an advanced electrolyzer technology.
Under an agreement inked by the two parties,OCP pledges to fund deployment of Peregrine novel hydrogen technology and purchase the products generated by Peregrine system. This cuts down Peregrine’s financial risk and secures the steady supply OCP needs to hit its sustainability milestones.
This agreement focuses on scaling up Peregrine’s hydrogen technology and marks a significant step toward decarbonizing cost-sensitive sectors like fertilizers.
OCP Group will provide investment to support the development and deployment of Peregrine’s electrolyzer system. This funding will cover detailed design, performance trials, and the construction of a pilot plant in Morocco’s phosphate mining region near Khouribga, leveraging existing infrastructure for sulfuric acid production and hydrogen integration to minimize costs and timelines.
“Peregrine’s approach can deliver clean hydrogen at a significantly lower cost than existing methods,” said Matt Shaner,CTO of Peregrine Hydrogen.
“Our partnership with OCP Group is a critical step toward deploying this technology at scale and accelerating decarbonization in cost-sensitive sectors”,he added
The two partners will jointly conduct engineering studies, pilot testing, and integration into OCP’s operations. Peregrine technology’s ability to produce hydrogen at a lower cost (potentially undercutting traditional methods that emit 9–12 kg of CO₂ per kg of hydrogen) is expected to accelerate green adoption in the fertilizer industry.
