Atlas Lion Nayef Aguerd joins Olympique de Marseille in €23M move from West Ham

Olympique de Marseille has officially signed Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd from West Ham United in a €23 million transfer,marking the defender’s return to Ligue 1 and a significant step in his career.

Aguerd,28,brings a wealth of experience to the French club,having previously played in Ligue 1 with Dijon and Rennes before moving to the Premier League in 2022.

At West Ham,he became one of the club’s most expensive defensive signings and played a key role in their UEFA Europa Conference League triumph in 2023.

Born in Kénitra and an alumnus of the Mohammed VI Football Academy,Aguerd rose through the ranks of Moroccan football before making his mark in Europe. His leadership and consistency have earned him over 50 caps with the Atlas Lions,including standout performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He signed a five-year contract with OM,committing to the club until June 2030. In his first message to fans,he expressed excitement about playing at the iconic Vélodrome and being part of a passionate footballing culture.

Aguerd’s arrival is expected to strengthen Marseille’s defense as the club aims to challenge for domestic honors and make a deep run in the UEFA Champions League.
