Gunfire tore through the pre-dawn silence in Eerste River and Mitchells Plain,leaving five men dead on Sunday.
In Eerste River,three men aged between 18 and 39 were killed in Daventry Street in Stratford Green when three unknown armed men entered the premises where they were sitting in the yard at about 00:40.
According to police spokesperson,Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie,the intruders opened fire and fatally shot the three men.
In a separate incident,two other men in their 20s and 30s were shot and killed,while another one in his 30s was seriously injured following a shooting at about 05:20 at a premises in Bertha Crescent,Montrose Park,Mitchells Plain.

Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk said that when the Lentegeur police arrived at the crime scene,they found one victim deceased and one victim who sustained a gunshot wound to the head being attended to by paramedics. He later died in hospital.
The injured man was transported to a medical facility for treatment in a private vehicle.
Kleinvlei police subsequently registered three counts of murder,while Lentegeur police are investigating two counts of murder and attempted murder.

Circumstances surrounding the shootings are under investigation. The motive is believed to be gang-related.
