Kenyan President William Ruto has pledged a record-breaking 600 million Kenyan shillings (approximately $4.6 million) to the national football team,Harambee Stars, should they clinch the 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

Addressing the players during a breakfast meeting in Nairobi over the weekend,Ruto described the moment as historic, noting that Kenya is hosting the prestigious tournament for the first time. His incentive package also includes scaled rewards of $464,500 for reaching the quarterfinals,$542,000 for advancing to the semifinals, and $697,000 for reaching the final on 30 August in Nairobi.

In a move aimed at galvanising team morale,Ruto further announced individual player bonuses of $7,741 for every match won,and half that amount for drawn fixtures.

The month-long CHAN tournament,a significant fixture in Africa’s football calendar, kicked off on Saturday,August 2,in Dar es Salaam and is being co-hosted by Kenya,Uganda, and Tanzania. With the substantial financial motivation and home-ground advantage, expectations are mounting for the Harambee Stars to make a deep run in the championship.
