Three killed and several injured in mass shooting at Reno resort

Three people were killed and several others were injured in a mass shooting at a resort in Reno,Nevada.

A shooter opened fire at Grand Sierra Resort shortly before 7.30am on Monday,said the Reno Police Department.

Six victims were shot,including five who were at the valet stand,police said. One of them died at the scene,and the other later succumbed to their gunshot wound. Another person driving through the car park was fatally shot by the suspect at random.

Two victims are still in critical condition and another has been released from a hospital.

Police officers spotted a suspect,an adult man,four to five minutes after arriving at the scene at 2500 E 2nd Street. He walked into the parking lot and valet area and took out a handgun which malfunctioned,until he fixed the issue and began firing.

Officers shot the suspect outside the front door of the hotel in the valet area and he was transported to a hospital.

His condition and identity were not immediately released.

Several people suffered injuries of varying levels and authorities were working to figure out exactly how many were hurt,News 4 reported earlier.

Victims received medical attention from REMSA Health,fire and resort staff. Some of them transported themselves to hospitals.

A few officers were also injured,but not by bullets.

Police said there was no longer a threat to the community.

Several police vehicles were parked outside of the resort,which was blocked off with yellow crime tape.

Governor Joe Lombardo said his office was aware of the shooting but did not provide any additional details.

‘While we wait for more information,please join Donna and me in praying for the victims and their families and for our brave first responders,’ he stated on X (formerly Twitter).

The Sparks Police Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The valet area and north side of the car park were expected to be closed for some time amid an ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
