Woman's body found in house after man arrested over Asda armed robbery in Dewsbury

Police investigating an armed robbery at a supermarket have found a woman’s dead body – and warn two other people could have been harmed.

A man was arrested at Asda in Dewsbury,near Leeds,on Saturday night and a knife was seized.

After he was arrested,the man told officers a woman who he thought was dead was inside a home in Norfolk Street,Batley.

When officers arrived they found a woman’s body. She hasn’t been formally identified yet but is believed to be aged in her 20s.

The man,who had already been arrested in connection with the armed robbery in Asda,has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Start your day informed with Metro's News Updates newsletter or get Breaking News alerts the moment it happens.West Yorkshire Police says another two people,a man and a woman,might have come to harm and they are trying to locate them in the Dewsbury area.Police fear two others may have come to harm (Picture: YappApp)Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates said on Sunday: ‘This is clearly a very serious incident,where a young woman has lost her life.‘There is a heightened police presence in Dewsbury today as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.‘Our immediate priority is to identify and locate the two people and establish whether or not they have come to any harm.‘A murder investigation is also underway and we do not believe there is any wider risk to the public at this time.‘We recognise this inquiry will cause concern in the community; we are working closely with our colleagues in the local neighbourhood policing team,who have stepped up patrols in the town centre.‘I would like to appeal to anyone who may have information that would assist to come forward and speak to us. We are also looking for any CCTV,doorbell and dash cam footage people might have to help our investigation.’
