King Mohammed VI has sent a message of congratulations to the members of the women’s national football team for their brilliant performance and outstanding competitive spirit at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Morocco July 5-26

In this message,the Monarch said that he followed with great pride the brilliant performance of the national team at the 2024 WAFCON,crowned by a spot in the final of the continental championship,which Morocco hosted with warm hospitality and excellent organization,worthy of the Kingdom and its guests.

The King praised the outstanding competitive spirit and the high sense of patriotism shown by the members of the women’s national team throughout the tournament,as well as their firm determination to enshrine the strong presence of Moroccan football continentally and internationally,and to give the national women’s sport the representation it deserves.

The Monarch also lauded the efforts of all those who contributed to this achievement,including the players,technical staff,medical staff,and administrative staff,and implored the Almighty to crown their sporting careers with success,and enable them to fulfill the expectations of passionate Moroccan fans who aspire to more titles,while assuring them of his solicitude and benevolence.

In the final held Saturday evening at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium,in the presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino,and President of the Confederation of African Football Patrice Motsepe,Nigeria’s team claimed their 10th Africa Cup of Nations title,overcoming a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final.

Morocco took an early 2-0 lead into halftime,raising hopes for a historic first title at home. However,the Super Falcons made a spirited comeback in the second half,to end the game with a 3 to 2 victory.

With this victory,Nigeria extends its record as the most successful team in the history of the Women’s AFCON.

Morocco,appearing in only their second-ever final after reaching the 2022 title match also at home,finished as runners-up after a strong campaign that included wins over Mali and Ghana in the knockout stages.
