Tunisian Electricity Company Blames Heatwave for Recent Power Outages

Mounir El Ghabri,Director of Citizen Relations at the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG),has attributed recent power outages to exceptional weather conditions,notably a sharp rise in temperatures. Speaking on Thursday,24 July 2025,El Ghabri described the company’s overall service delivery as “good,” emphasising that the disruptions were limited in scope and duration.


He explained that the outages were strategically implemented to safeguard the national grid and ensure continued electricity supply amid extreme heat. El Ghabri reassured the public that STEG is actively working to minimise future disruptions and maintain stable service as Tunisia confronts intensifying climate-related pressures.
