Morocco qualified for the quarter-final of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024 after beating Senegal 1-0 in a match played Saturday evening in a fully-packed Olympic stadium in Rabat.
The Moroccan goal was scored by Yasmin Mrabet from the penalty spot in stoppage-time at the end of the first half after Senegal goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye had elbowed Atlas Lionesses star Ghizlane Chebbak.
The hosts took control early in the game with sharp midfield play and strong wing attacks. Senegal pressed hard for an equalizer in the second half but Morocco’s defensive line remained resolute under pressure, while tactical changes by coach Reynald Pedros helped contain Senegal’s late surge.
Both teams had chances in the second period, but Atlas Lionesses were the deserved winner and finished top of their group ahead of Zambia, which beat 10-woman DR Congo 1-0 to book their place in the last eight.
