The International University of Rabat (UIR) maintains for the 3rd consecutive year its 1st position at the national level in the prestigious International Times High Education (THE) Impact Rankings, out of 14 Moroccan universities which appear in the ranking issued this week.
The International THE Impact Rankings measures the commitment of universities to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),the university pointed out in a press release.
The UIR confirms its commitment to sustainable development and occupies the top of the list of Moroccan universities (tied with Ibn Tofail University) with a particular distinction relating to SDG 17: partnership for the achievement of the objectives, and SDG 8 : Decent work and Economic Growth (promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all).
The distinction also relates to SDG 16: peace, justice, and effective institutions (promote the advent of peaceful and inclusive societies for the purposes of sustainable development, ensure access to justice for all,and establish,at all levels, effective, accountable institutions open to all),and finally SDG 12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns.
This performance is the result of sustained efforts of the entire UIR community. It also reflects the UIR’s strong commitment to achieving SDGs,underlined the press release, adding that this result also confirms UIR’s strategy in terms of positioning in international rankings and international accreditation.
In another development,QS World University Rankings 2026,published on Thursday by British firm Quacquarelli Symonds, indicated that Rabat’s Mohammed V University (UM5R) maintained, for the sixth year in a row,its position as Morocco’s leading university.
UM5R thus reinforces its pioneering role of academic excellence in the national and international university arena, the university said in a press release, noting that the ranking assessed 8,467 institutions from across the world, selecting only the top 1,501 universities worldwide.
Mohammed V University recorded 12,552 scientific publications during this period, confirming its position in cutting-edge fields such as engineering and computer science, science and technology, life sciences and medicine, the press release said.
These exceptional results are the fruit of an exemplary collective commitment from the entire university community: professors-researchers,students and administrative staff, who work every day to enhance UM5R’s reputation, both nationally and internationally.
The QS ranking is based on a rigorous methodology built around five criteria: academic reputation and research impact (50%),graduate employability (20%),international influence (15%),faculty/student ratio (10%),commitment to sustainable development (5%).
The bibliometric data, taken from the international Scopus database, cover the period 2019-2023 for scientific publications and 2019-2024 for citations, the press release said.
