Libya’s Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has told on June 15 a visiting United Nations delegation that his roadmap for ending Libya’s prolonged transitional period and steering the country towards elections has strong public backing.

The delegation, from the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services,is conducting a comprehensive performance evaluation of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). Dbeibah emphasised that any international assessment must be grounded in Libya’s complex political terrain and geared towards fostering stability.

He underscored the need for the UN’s political role in Libya to remain neutral, inclusive, and respectful of national sovereignty. The Prime Minister called for reforms in how the Mission engages with local actors, stressing that effective support for Libyan institutions is crucial at this juncture. Dbeibah reaffirmed his commitment to cooperating with UNSMIL and international partners to facilitate credible elections that will restore legitimacy and end the cycle of interim governments.
