As the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kicks off in the United States, one of Morocco’s leading teams,Wydad Athletic Club (WAC),stands as a proud representative of the country and African football, ready to take on some of the world’s most elite teams.

Their participation in this historic, expanded edition of the tournament is not only a milestone for the Casablanca-based club but also a reflection of Morocco’s growing stature in global football.

Wydad AC earned their place in the 32-team tournament by winning the 2021–22 CAF Champions League, defeating Egyptian rivals Al Ahly 2–0 in a memorable final in Casablanca

This victory marked their third continental title and secured their third appearance at the Club World Cup,but their first in the new format, which mirrors the FIFA World Cup structure.

Drawn into Group G,Wydad faces a formidable challenge against UEFA Champions League winners Manchester City,Italian giants Juventus, and UAE’s Al Ain.

Captain Jamal Harkass,a key figure in the team’s defense, emphasized the importance of discipline and focus: “We have to play at a high level without mistakes. These matches will be decided on small details,” he told FIFA

Wydad’s journey is emblematic of Morocco’s broader football renaissance. The country has invested heavily in infrastructure, youth development, and international partnerships. Morocco’s successful bid to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Spain further cements its role as a rising football power.
