Algeria has launched a strategic planning process with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to define its new Country Strategy Paper (CSP) for the 2025–2030 period. This initiative reaffirms the Maghreb nation’s commitment to an inclusive, resilient and sustainable economic transformation.

The mission, currently taking place in Algiers, reflects the Algerian government’s proactive drive to realign its development priorities in a context defined by the urgent need to diversify an economy long dependent on hydrocarbons. In this framework, national authorities are leading a participatory process that brings together private‑sector actors, civil‑society organizations and international development partners.

Algeria aims to leverage this collaboration to advance its core strategic pillars: job creation, industrial modernization, sustainable agriculture and the energy transition. Government officials have stressed their determination to forge a robust partnership with the AfDB that aligns with Algeria’s forward‑looking vision and its international commitments, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

“The support of the African Development Bank is invaluable, but Algeria sets the course,” emphasized a representative of the Ministry of Finance during the opening sessions of the strategic dialogue. “This mission provides a platform to reinforce our economic sovereignty and strengthen our capacity to meet global challenges.”

As of 28 March 2025,the AfDB’s active portfolio in Algeria comprises three technical‑assistance operations, totaling approximately USD 2.28 million. Multisector initiatives account for 47.3 percent of this commitment, followed by energy (42 percent) and agriculture (10.7 percent)—areas where Algeria seeks to innovate and expand through more inclusive, sustainable policies.

With this new roadmap,Algeria takes the lead in shaping its future development by harnessing strategic alliances such as its partnership with the AfDB to bolster national capacities and move toward a modern, green economy that generates opportunities for all.
