The election witnessed an “unprecedented” turnout of 66.8%,with over 39 million voters participating among Egypt’s 67 million eligible voters.

President al-Sissi,who has led the country for a decade, faced three opponents in the election. Hazem Omar, leader of the Republican People’s Party, secured the second position with 4.5% of the vote, while Farid Zahran, leader of a left-wing party, and Abdel-Sanad Yamama of the Wafd party, lagged behind.

The victory ensures President al-Sissi a third term, set to commence in April and supposed to be his final term under the Egyptian Constitution. Despite challenges such as economic crises, inflation at 36.4%,currency devaluation, and rising food prices, the election outcome aligns with expectations in the country of 106 million people.
