A rabbit was sucked into a United Airlines engine exploding into a fireball forcing the flight to make an emergency landing.

Footage shows flames shooting from one of United Flight 2325’s engines after it took off from Denver International Airport on its way to Edmonton,Canada.

Crew can be heard requesting the plane to be inspected for an engine fire,and it did not take long for the pilot to discover the cause.

He said: ‘Rabbit through the number 2 [engine],that’ll do it.’

Passenger Scott Wolff said he heard a loud bang as the rabbit was sucked it,causing the plane to vibrate.

He told Good Morning America: ‘Every few moments there was a backfire coming from the engine,a giant fireball behind it.

‘Everyone in the plane then started to panic.’

The flight was carrying 153 passengers and six crew,and landed back in Denver around 8.05pm,the Federal Aviation Administration said.

United Airline said: ‘Our flight from Denver to Edmonton (UA2325) returned safely to Denver to address a possible wildlife strike.’

In March,American Airlines passengers evacuating their plane after an engine burst into flames at Denver Airport.

The airline said all 172 passengers and six crew members made it off the Boeing 737-800 plane,with 12 needing hospital treatment for minor injuries.
