Sudan’s Finance Minister Gibril Ibrahim held discussions with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on measures to support economic stabilization and post-war reconstruction in Sudan.
The meeting, held on May 17,2026,in Khartoum, brought together the Finance Minister and the acting UNDP Resident Representative,Sudayo Bouro Zoukofa, who explored coordinated efforts aimed at rebuilding the country’s battered economy.
Sudan’s economy has been severely weakened by the conflict that erupted in April 2023,with reports indicating a contraction of more than 42 per cent and widespread loss of livelihoods affecting a large proportion of the population.
During the talks,Minister Ibrahim reaffirmed the government’s quest to receive technical and financial support from international partners to advance recovery programs, including infrastructure rehabilitation and development initiatives. He also emphasized priorities such as improving access to clean water through renewable energy solutions, strengthening food security, accelerating digital transformation, and integrating the informal sector into the formal economy.
The UNDP,for its part, underscored the importance of closer coordination with Sudanese authorities to maximize the impact of international support and development funding, and confirmed its readiness to provide technical assistance for recovery efforts. Both sides also discussed plans to engage the private sector in upcoming development and service delivery projects as part of broader reconstruction efforts.
