
Mauritania and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) have signed two financing agreements worth €116.6 million to strengthen the country’s health and energy sectors.
The agreements were signed in Jeddah by Mauritania’s Minister of Economic Affairs,Abdallah Ould Souleymane Ould Cheikh Sidia,and IsDB Vice-President for Operations,Rami Ahmed,in the presence of senior Mauritanian officials,including the governor of the Central bank.
The first agreement,valued at €61.4 million,will finance the construction and equipping of an integrated referral hospital in Nouakchott focused on maternal,newborn and child health,with the aim of reducing maternal and infant mortality.
The second deal,worth €55.2 million,will support the interconnection of the electricity grid between Mauritania and Mali,including the installation of grid-connected solar power plants to enhance renewable energy supply and regional integration.
Mauritanian officials said the agreements reflect the long-standing partnership between the country and the IsDB,which dates back to Mauritania’s accession as a founding member in 1974,and align with national plans to accelerate development and improve essential public services.
