At least 22 people,including four medical personnel,have been killed and eight others injured following an air strike on Al-Kuweik Military Hospital in Sudan’s South Kordofan State,according to the Sudan Doctors Network.
Those killed reportedly included the hospital’s medical director and three other healthcare workers,dealing a severe blow to an already fragile health system. The medical group strongly condemned the attack,describing it as a war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law,which guarantees the protection of civilians and medical facilities during conflict.
It warned that the strike was part of a broader pattern of assaults on health infrastructure in South Kordofan,forcing several hospitals out of operation and deepening the humanitarian crisis facing civilians.
Holding the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fully responsible,the network called on the international community,United Nations agencies and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop repeated attacks on medical establishments.
The RSF has not issued an immediate response to the allegations. Sudan remains divided along conflict lines,with the RSF controlling most of the Darfur region while the army holds large parts of the rest of the country,including Khartoum.
Fighting between the two sides,which began in April 2023,has resulted in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions,continuing to erode civilian protection and access to essential services.
