African Union’s Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide,Adama Dieng, arrived in Port-Sudan on 16 November for a four-day mission that includes meetings with Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Justice Ministry, and the Public Prosecutor.
His visit comes amid serious accusations against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of mass killings that some analysts now say could amount to genocide, particularly following the RSF’s 26 October capture of El Fasher. The U.S. has previously accused RSF of genocide directed at the Masalit ethnic community in West Darfur.
Dieng’s engagement is part of the AU’s broader push to end the conflict and hold perpetrators accountable. During his stay,he is expected to be briefed on widespread violations in Darfur,Greater Kordofan, and elsewhere — including alleged crimes against humanity and genocide‑like acts.
