The Gambia and Malawi have reiterated this Wednesday support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and hailed the recent UN Security Council Resolution 2797 that enshrined the autonomy plan under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.
The support was voiced by the Gambian and Malawian Foreign Ministers Sering Modou Njie and George Tapatula Chaponda at separate meetings they held this Wednesday in Rabat with their Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita.
The Gambian official reiterated his country’s consistent support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, and keenly welcomed the adoption of Resolution 2797 which enshrines the autonomy initiative as the only solution for the settlement of this regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
“We welcome the latest UN Security Council resolution consolidating the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over the Sahara,” said the Gambian minister during a joint press briefing with Nasser Bourita, following their talks.
In this regard, the Gambian top diplomat reaffirmed his country’s consistent support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, describing it as the “only solution” to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
During his talks with Bourita, the head of Malawian diplomacy, who is on his first working visit Morocco, hailed as historic Resolution 2797,which consolidates, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom as the only serious, credible, and lasting basis for reaching a political solution to the fabricated dispute over the Sahara.
He reaffirmed his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara, and praised the growing international consensus,as well as the momentum driven by King Mohammed VI in support of the Autonomy Plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
He further welcomed the longstanding relations between Morocco and Malawi, expressing his gratitude for the consistent support his country receives from the Kingdom.
