The Sudan Doctors Network on Tuesday,November 11,accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of detaining seven families near Babnousa in Sudan’s West Kordofan region for allegedly having relatives serving in the Sudanese Army. In a statement, the group described the arrests as “a clear violation of international humanitarian law,” urging human rights organizations and the international community to intervene to ensure the detainees’ release and prevent further abuses against civilians.
The medical network held the RSF fully accountable for the safety of the detained families, warning that such actions undermine civilian protection during wartime. The detentions come amid renewed fighting between the RSF and the Sudanese army across the Kordofan states. Since the conflict erupted on 15 April 2023,thousands have been killed and millions displaced, with mediation efforts by regional and international actors yet to yield a lasting ceasefire.
