More than 1,000 civilians have fled the Sudanese city of El-Fasher in North Darfur amid escalating clashes between the national Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Local organizations report on Monday,October 27,that 1,117 new internally displaced persons (IDPs),representing 360 families, have arrived in the nearby town of Tawila on Sunday, bringing the total number of displaced individuals since mid-October to over 3,000.
The displaced are said to be living in dire conditions, facing acute shortages of food, water, shelter, and medical care. Humanitarian agencies, including the UN and the International Organization for Migration (IOM),have been urged to provide immediate assistance as the crisis worsens.
The IOM estimates that over 26,000 people fled El-Fasher within just 48 hours due to heavy fighting and extreme insecurity on major routes. UN agencies warn that approximately 260,000 civilians remain trapped inside the besieged city, including 130,000 children suffering from severe hunger and lack of healthcare. El-Fasher,a key humanitarian hub for the Darfur region, has been under siege by the RSF since May 2024. The broader conflict, which began in April 2023,has already claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions, pushing Sudan further into one of the world’s gravest humanitarian crises.
