The three telecom operators in Morocco have officially launched the 5G network, marking a significant step in the country’s digital development strategy.
The rollout is part of the “Maroc Digital 2030” strategy, which aims to connect 25% of the population to 5G by 2026 and 75% by 2030. The initiative positions digital infrastructure as a key driver of economic modernization, public service digitization, and national competitiveness.
The launch comes ahead of major international events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) and the 2030 FIFA World Cup,which Morocco will co-host.
Enhanced connectivity is expected to play a critical role in supporting logistics, media coverage, and visitor experience during these events.
Telecom operators Maroc Telecom, inwi and Orange confirmed that their 5G service is now active, with compatible smartphones automatically connecting to the network.
No SIM card change or additional fees are required for existing customers. The network offers speeds up to 2 Gbps, reduced latency, and improved stability in high-density areas.
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) had initially instructed operators to prioritize coverage in the six CAN host cities,as well as Laâyoune and Dakhla. However, all three national operators have exceeded these targets, expanding coverage to additional urban centers and tourist zones. A broader rollout is expected by the end of 2025,with nationwide coverage planned for 2026.
Morocco’s 5G deployment builds on existing fiber optic and data center infrastructure and reflects the country’s ambition to become a regional technology hub.
