The Libyan Government of National Unity has confirmed the release of Hannibal Gaddafi by Lebanese authorities, lifting both the travel ban and bail conditions that had been imposed.

Tripoli attributed the development to sustained Libyan diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the matter through a legal and humanitarian framework that upheld the dignity of its citizens. The Government expressed gratitude to the Lebanese leadership, particularly the President and the Speaker of Parliament, for their cooperation and the positive stance that led to Gaddafi’s release.

The Government highlighted in a statement that the decision reflects the enduring bonds of brotherhood and shared history between Libya and Lebanon while reinforcing judicial cooperation and mutual trust. Tripoli also welcomed Lebanon’s commitment to reviving diplomatic relations and expanding collaboration in political, economic, and security spheres.

The release followed a visit by a high-level Libyan delegation to Beirut, during which Libyan officials presented findings from their own investigation into the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr—an act that reportedly eased Lebanese judicial concerns and paved the way for the decision.

Hannibal Gaddafi had been held since 2015 in connection with the al-Sadr case.
