King Mohammed VI has decided to proclaim October 31 of each year as national holiday following the historic vote by the UN Security Council of a resolution endorsing Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.
The announcement was made by the Royal Office in a statement issued Tuesday.
“ In view of the historic turning point in the national Cause process and mindful of the decisive developments brought about by Resolution 2797/2025 of the Security Council, which was the subject of the recent Speech addressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to his faithful people,it has been decided to proclaim October 31 of each year as a national holiday and an occasion on which His Majesty the King grants his pardon”,said the statement.
The King has named this national holiday “Aid Al Wahda” (Unity Day),with all that it entails in terms of meanings and references to the national unity and the unshakable territorial integrity of the Kingdom, said the statement, stressing that this holiday shall be a uniting national occasion for expressing attachment to the Kingdom’s national sacred values and its legitimate rights.
It has also been decided that the Royal Speech will henceforth be delivered on two official occasions: the first through the Speech on the Throne Day and the second at the opening of the Parliament.
In doing so,the King,as Commander of the Faithful and Head of State, reserves the right to address his faithful people at any time and on any occasion that the King deems appropriate, underlined the Royal Office statement.
The festivities marking the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Green March shall also proceed as planned, albeit without the Sovereign addressing a Speech to the Nation on this occasion.
