scary moment food delivery cyclist seen illegally riding along a busy motorway

A cyclist was pulled over on a major British motorway as he tried to deliver someone’s takeaway.

The bike rider,carrying an orange Just Eat insulated bag on their back,was caught cycling down the inside lane of the M4 motorway.

The entire incident was caught on camera by a passerby walking on a bridge over the motorway – including the moment he was pulled over by police.

It’s not known exactly where the incident took place on the M4,a busy motorway which runs between London and Swansea.

The cyclist was seen furiously pedaling along in the inside lane of the carriageway,trying in vain to keep up with passing cars who had moved out of the lane to avoid him.

Start your day informed with Metro's News Updates newsletter or get Breaking News alerts the moment it happens.It didn’t take long for police to arrive,with one police car pulling up on the cyclist’s left and trying to indicate for him to pull over.The cyclist seemed to ignore the first attempt from emergency services to pull him over (Picture: Caters)Apparently uninterested in the police’s intervention,he simply took a quick glance over his shoulder before carrying on.The video then jumps forward in time to see the cyclist pulled over in a lay-by.A Roads Policing Unit police car as well as two National Highways vehicles approached the cyclist – probably to tell him it’s illegal to cycle on a UK motorway.Only Class I and Class II vehicles are allowed on motorways,all of which must be capable of exceeding 25mph,meaning bicycles do not fall under those categories.There are the odd exceptions,such as the M48 Severn Bridge which allows cyclists,but as a general rule,there are no pushbikes allowed on motorways.The cyclist was eventually pulled over (Picture: Caters)The video was shared on social media,where many users commented that whoever was waiting for their meal delivery would likely be disappointed.The video itself,shared on TikTok,featured text which read: ‘I hate to tell you your McDonald’s might be cold.’In response to the incident,a Just Eat spokesperson told The Sun: ‘Safety is taken seriously at Just Eat.‘All couriers delivering on our behalf must agree to follow all local laws and rules of the road.‘We regularly provide guidance on safe and responsible behaviour and investigate any breaches.’
