Nine African companies have been named among Forbes’ 2025 World’s Best Employers, highlighting the continent’s growing influence in global workplace standards and corporate culture.
Topping Africa’s list is Standard Bank Group, ranked 28th globally, and securing its fourth consecutive appearance on Forbes’ prestigious annual ranking. The accolade cements its position as a leader in employee development, inclusion, and purpose-driven growth. Compiled in partnership with research firm Statista, the ranking surveyed over 300,000 employees across more than 50 countries. Respondents rated their employers on compensation, career advancement,work-life balance, and overall corporate reputation.
Most of the African companies on the list hail from South Africa, with Nedbank (49th),Absa (97th),MTN (166th),and Sappi (289th) also earning global recognition. Others include Sasol,Mediclinic, and Adcorp, spanning sectors from finance to healthcare and telecommunications. Standard Bank’s Chief Executive Sim Tshabalala credited the bank’s 54,000 employees for the honor. “Their passion, creativity, and commitment are the true measure of our success,” he said. “We are committed to their growth and,in turn, they are the driving force behind the growth of our clients and the continent.”
“Our people are our greatest source of competitive advantage,” Sharon Taylor,Chief People and Culture Officer, added. “Their development drives both our business and the continent forward.” While Africa still faces labour-related challenges — from wage disparities to governance concerns — these companies are proving that world-class workplaces can thrive on the continent. Their recognition signals not just business success, but a shift toward inclusive,forward-thinking employment models rooted in African excellence.
