A 26-year-old officer has succumbed to his injuries while trying to get away from two suspects who had hijacked,stabbed and stoned him in Marikana informal settlement in Philippi on Sunday.

A 26-year-old Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (Leap) officer has succumbed to his injuries while trying to get away from two suspects who had hijacked,stabbed and stoned him in Marikana informal settlement in Philippi on Sunday.

The suspects had hijacked the officer,stabbed him multiple times,and stoned him.

According to safety and security Mayco member,JP Smith,the officer’s colleagues found him in the settlement and rushed him to hospital,where he succumbed to his injuries.

One suspect has been arrested.

“We call on the community to come forward with information regarding the second suspect,” Smith said.

He added that the Safety and Security Directorate would ensure that those behind this senseless murder are arrested.

“We extend our condolences to the grieving family.”
