Prominent figures from Morocco’s Jewish community have welcomed the latest ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas,brokered by the US.
The truce,which came into effect Friday morning,is being hailed as a potential turning point for peace and stability in the region.
The agreement,reached earlier this week in Sharm El-Sheikh,outlines several key provisions: the exchange of hostages and the remains of those killed,the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza City,Rafah,Khan Younis,and northern Gaza,the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave,and the return of displaced residents to central and northern areas of the Strip.
Jacky Kadoch,president of the Jewish community in the Marrakech-Safi region,described the ceasefire as a highly significant step toward establishing security and stability in a region that has been engulfed in war since the events of October 7.
Speaking to Hespress,Kadoch emphasized that the agreement opens new avenues for cooperation between peoples of the region.
Kadoch also praised Morocco’s consistent support for peace in the Middle East,highlighting the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
“Morocco has always stood for peace,and its initiatives have made it a key player in countering extremism and promoting dialogue among nations and civilizations,” he added.
David Kanan,president of the Jewish Association of Marrakech,echoed these sentiments,noting that the ceasefire could help alleviate the suffering of many families.
