U.S. senior presidential advisor Massad Boulos has met for the second time this month with UN Sahara envoy Staffan de Mistura to reiterate the steadfast position of Washington, affirming that a “genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the only basis for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution for Western Sahara that will bring prosperity, peace, and stability to the region.”

The U.S.,the penholder of the UN Security Council resolutions on the Sahara,is intensifying contacts and consultations with all parties to the conflict ahead of the upcoming meeting of the UNSC expected to endorse the Moroccan Autonomy plan and replace the MINURSO with a new UN body tasked solely with advancing the Autonomy plan offering the ONLY feasible solution to end the decades-long conflict.

The United States is coordinating its diplomatic moves with its allies,France and the United Kingdom with veto powers at the Security Council,to close definitively the Sahara issue posing serious threat to regional stability and security. China supports Morocco’s territorial integrity, while Russia will very likely abstain from voting as it did on many occasions.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly convening in New York,Staffan De Mistura has met again with Algerian foreign minister Ahmed Attaf to tell him that the Autonomy plan is the ONLY solution on the negotiating table. The UN envoy has met twice with Attaf, confirming that Algeria is the main stakeholder in the Sahara conflict.

De Mistura has also held separate consultation meetings on the Sahara with the foreign ministers of Morocco,Spain,Russia,France and Mauritania as well as with Algeria-backed Polisario group which continues to pursue elusive dreams, refusing to accept reality and making terror threats against whole region.

Morocco has reaffirmed to the UN envoy the unchanging constants of the position of the Kingdom as set out by King Mohammed VI with a view to achieving a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution based exclusively on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

At the ongoing 80th session UN General Assembly,Head of Moroccan Govt. Aziz Akhannouch affirmed that Autonomy Plan offered by Morocco for the Sahara under its sovereignty is the ONLY realistic and feasible solution to this regional dispute.

The growing international recognition of the Moroccan plan means that it is high time to turn the page on this artificial conflict with full respect for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom, said the Prime Minister.

He also highlighted the socio-economic progress the southern provinces are witnessing thanks to the new development model and the Royal Atlantic initiatives, noting that this region is now establishing itself as a strategic hub of peace, security, and co-development.
