Morocco has reiterated its firm support for the two-state solution as the only viable path for resolving the decades-long Palestinian-Israeli conflict and establishing a lasting peace in the Middle East.

The supportive stand was expressed in Morocco’s address made Tuesday by Head of Govt. Aziz Akhannouch at UN General Assembly convening in New York.

Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI,chairman of Al-Qods Committee, remains convinced that “the two-state solution is the only way to a lasting peace in the Middle East,” said Akhannouch.

This solution should not be deferred or marginalized,he added, stressing the need to open up prospects for a credible political solution with a precise timetable guaranteeing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

He reaffirmed in this regard Morocco’s attachment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 1967,with Al-Qods-Est as its capital and Gaza as an integral part of the Palestinian state.

He also called for supporting the Palestinian Authority to strengthen its institutions and meet the expectations of the Palestinian people in security, dignity and development.

Akhannouch urged the international community to mobilize and join efforts to end the war, calling for an immediate ceasefire, return to the negotiating table, unfettered and safe access of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and implementing the reconstruction roadmap adopted by the Extraordinary Arab Summit.

The Head of Govt. has also reaffirmed Morocco’s steadfast commitment to protecting Holy places,in particular the Al-Aqsa Mosque, citing in this regards the efforts made by Bayt Mal Al-Qods Agency to preserve Al Quds city’s cultural and religious identity and strengthen its legal status.

The Prime minister availed the opportunity of the UN General Assembly to express Morocco’s solidarity with Qatar,Syria and Lebanon hit by Israeli airstrikes. He also called for peaceful solutions in Libya,Yemen,Sudan and Somalia, insisting on the respect the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of these countries and opposing foreign interference.
