China and Egypt are taking their strategic partnership to a new level as they prepare to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026. During a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit,Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to outline a joint roadmap for economic, technological, and energy cooperation between the two nations.

President Xi emphasized that Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China in 1956,highlighting that relations are currently “at their historical best.” He called for expanding bilateral investments and deepening collaboration in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, trade, and innovation. The Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone remains a cornerstone of this partnership, driving industrial development and attracting foreign investment in key sectors.

The leaders also underscored the importance of aligning their strategies within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI),which positions Egypt as a pivotal hub connecting Asia,Africa, and Europe. Both countries reaffirmed their roles as influential voices of the Global South, pledging to advance sustainable development, foster technological innovation, and promote an inclusive economic recovery amid growing global competition. Their deepening cooperation not only benefits both nations but also creates new opportunities for emerging economies across the developing world.
